The current year’s topic is SETKÁNÍ Léčí / Regenerate with ENCOUNTER. „We believe that encounters heal. The healing power of contact with others can be like medicine in today’s world and can treat the paranoia which we are tainted by due to the disinformation around us.
Our body - and also our soul - need these healing procedures, and we also believe that encounters through art can cure the soul, which we cannot neglect.”
- Hana Zahradníčková (festival director), Soňa Mucinová (festival dramaturgist)
The biggest change for the upcoming year is the fact that the festival has new members
among its leaders. For twenty-eight years, Prof. Petr Oslzlý was the Artistic Director of the festival. Now this role has been taken by the Michal Zetel, PhD. He is the Head of the Studio of Musical Acting at JAMU and the Slovácké divadlo Uherské Hradiště.
The ambassador and face of the festival will be the actor, mime artist, playwright and especially graduate of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Bolek Polívka.
As is tradition, the productions on the main program will be performed on the stages of JAMU in Brno (Divadlo na Orlí and Studio Marta) and also at the premises of the Center for Experimental Theatre, which includes the theatre companies Divadlo Husa na provázku and HaDivadlo.
Although the festival is not a competition, every year the jury grants several awards. The jury consists of professional members and student members. The festival has already confirmed two of the four professional jurors. The first is Paul Borne, Artistic Director of the Menagerie Theatre in the UK. Paul Bourne has directed and produced more than eighty profesional productions in ten different countries over the last 25 years. At present he is also the Artistic Director of the Theatre 6–16 in Prague. The second honourable juror is Dr. Wolfgang Jansen, who is considered an expert in all forms of musical theatre in the German-speaking world. He works as a theatrologist, critic and cultural manager.
Besides the main program, an interesting and rich off-program will be available for the participants. Just like last year, the Open Air Stage will be erected on Moravian Square on the first day of the festival, the 2nd of April, 2019.
