The Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (Vysoká škola múzických umení – VŠMU) was established in 1949 as a public university offering higher education in theatre, film, music and dance. It is the central Slovak institution for artistic training and currently consists of three faculties: the Theatre Faculty, the Film and Television Faculty, and the Music and Dance Faculty. Its philosophy is based on artistic freedom, creative independence and a strong link between education and artistic practice.
The Theatre Faculty (Divadelná fakulta VŠMU) offers accredited programmes in acting, directing, dramaturgy, theatre management, stage and lighting design, puppetry, movement theatre and related disciplines. Its teaching model emphasises studio-based training, close collaboration with professional artists, and the integration of practical creation with theoretical reflection.
An Enemy of the People
They have their own press and newspapers,
they want us to ****** while they write history.
Are they really so afraid of the truth?”
“Today we no longer live in the age of truth and facts, but in the age of interpretations. Everyone has their own truth and facts bend according to who they serve.” (Máté Kantár) The production Enemy of the People is based on Henrik Ibsen’s classic play, but under the direction of Máté Kantár, it takes on a new, urgent meaning. At a time when facts are relativized and public discourse is subject to manipulation, this timeless political example becomes relevant again. The author team of the production did not choose this play for its historical context, but for its ability to reflect the present. The viewer can find their own social reality, their own conflict, and their own “truth” in it.
